Wavelength

For over a year now, my husband and I have been exchanging greeting cards with one another through snail mail.

Upon his depature, I chose one card to send per month, and later purchased other cards during the months....Happy Thanksgiving! Happy Easter! Happy Birthday! Okay, well that one got lost in the mail....

You would not believe how many cards that we exchanged that were exactly the same for the same occassion.

Within days of my mailing a card, the same card would happily arrive from my husband in Iraq.

Now, I know you are thinking "Oh, well there aren't that many cards available that say "I miss you" or "Thinking of you" BLAH BLAH, Devon!"

But really, think of how the greeting card industry is dominated. I know I bought cards from Hallmark, American Greetings, and Target, and obviously Richard didn't have that option.

AND That's not all!
Even more astonishing!....

We would say similar things to one another in the cards, even if the card wasn't the same!
OR we would exchange thoughts in cards and conversation....

And not only that, but we exchanged the exact same Easter card, which we purchased because it sparked the same memories, which we discussed in the card! Two bunnies showering together. Okay, I know that is riske for an Easter card, but really....you would have to see it.

I once made a list of all the reasons that I miss having him here.
And within the same week of mailing it, a card arrived from him with a list about me!

I mentioned the hamburger that brought us together in a blog entry....
And the NEXT day, a card arrived from him reminding me of how important that moment was to him.... (Perhaps one day, I will share that story with you.)

There are a million more examples of this happening.

Although we have struggled soooo much with remaining close and connected during our separation, and despite how we may have felt so distant from one another....the exchange of cards is indicitative of how close we really are.

This was so beautiful. I hope you guys save all these cards so that when you are older your children can pull them out and see how truly special ya'lls love for each other is.

I do not know if you have the bunny showering card still, but I am pretty sure that it is inside that big black box that I mailed home.

Funny, I did not realize that we sent the "miss you" lists independently. I did not think about the timeline.

But I do know that last it, I thought that my card had been sent back to me when really it was the same card from you.
