My husband and I joke that we live in the middle of nowhere. Little did we know, when we were moving back to Virginia, that we would be further away from things than we were before.
We were naive.
It is near impossible to jump in the car to go anywhere. Almost ten minutes of driving will take you out of the neighborhood. There is no where to run if you want to pick up a quick dinner, as opposed to cooking. The luxuries of Braum's were never taken for granted in grande ole Lawton.
I don't regret our choice though. Our location is truly fabulous. We are in a beautiful, lake community near many of the unknown tourist attractions of the South. We drive past Monticello on the way to Charlottesville. The wineries, the orchards. It is amazing to be able to drive through the mountains again. Trees are such a beautiful thing.
The drive takes me back all those years, to when I was in college. I always looked forward to the drive from Lynchburg to Lexington, no matter what the hour. I am able to spend the half hour car trip, reminising about courting and being so carefree. Those days often seem like decades ago.
But here we are, back in the great state of Virginia, and it is a true blessing. Despite the pollen and the endless rain, everything looks brighter and happier here. I look forward to living in the middle of nowhere.
