When I was taught to always have particular things on hand around the house, my mom wasn't joking. Wait until you are sick and your kids are sick -- and you will see how serious it is.
You would think we would have learned from our illness extravaganza when I was pregnant with Meredith. Then Rich realized, we needed to always keep soup and jello on hand -- unfortunately, I still have the soup he chose - Steak and Potato and Italian Meatball. You see how yummy that sounds after you have been throwing up for hours.
Luckily, I replinished the jello after we made it for a dessert. But I didn't bother bringing home soup or crackers.
So for those reading this, take note - GO TO THE STORE AS SOON AS POSSIBLE!
You will need the following items on hand for emergencies:
ginger ale
gatorade
pedialyte (but only if you are formula feeding a baby or have a toddler - breast is best :))
saltine crackers (please do not think that one box is enough. they run buy one get one sales for a reason)
chicken soup (not the chunky, healthy kind....the mostly broth and no chicken kind that isn't good for you)
jello (lime is definately not recommended, but that is what Rich had picked out)
popcicles (they also make pedialyte ones, if you so desire)
bananas
bread (for toast)
applesause
tissues
detergent (you will be washing a lot of clothes)
disinfectant (Lysol Spray and Wipes are a time saver)
Should you have any questions, please let me know. There is nothing like having a sick baby pulling on your leg when you are having issues in the bathroom, and a sick toddler standing beside you saying "EWWW!" I am willing to share advice.

Oh Devon, I'm sorry you are sick. That is awful. I have to say I learned the lesson about having things on hand a few months ago when the bug got me. Thankfully I did most of my time with the toilet while Ryan was asleep. However, if I'd had those items on hand a 6 a.m. trip to walmart for me and Ryan could have been avoided, so this is a good reminder. I wish I lived near you so I could have brought you soup. Feel better!
I hope you all start feeling better soon!! Gosh that is awful!!!
I agree with everyone else who loves you, yuck! I'm so sorry that you've been sick. I wish I lived near you and could bring you yummy soup, run to the store for you, and be with you and your babies. Thank you for sharing the list of things that must be in our cupboards. I'm glad you're starting to feel better!! xoxo
It is hard for me to imagine being in your place, Dev. But your imagery of Mere pulling on your leg and Luc saying, "Ewww!" helps me visualize.
I am sorry. I wish that I was there for you.
By the way, there is no substitute for your homemade soups and stewoups. I look forward to them againg soon.
