Family Fun Day!

This week, we ventured out to the Virginia Discovery Museum in downtown Charlottesville.

We had never been, in fear that Lucas wasn't old enough to enjoy it - especially since we had no idea what to expect.

What a surprise! The whole museum is geared toward children under the age of 5. Of course, older kids can go and appreciate too, but I think 7-10 year old would be the cut off for enjoying it.

They had a train table and a room to build tracks, play dolls, and read. There was a pirate ship with a slide, and games.

Mommy and Meredith Playing on the Pirate ship!

Blocks. A log cabin, with dress up clothes, pretend food, and wild stuffed animals. A magnetic gear wall. A ball maze. A dress up stage for "plays". An art room for crafts. And a grocery store!

Meredith going shopping! Then taking a break....

They had 2 special exhibits as well: the Human Heart and Lung and Bees.
They had simulated the heart and lungs....had a large operation game, and gave information about exercise and eating healthy.
There was also an indoor bee hive, filled with bees. An old hornet's nest. And all sorts of information about how bees live, collect honey, and assist in pollination.

The indoor bee hive.
Daddy and Meredith looking at all the bees.
Lucas looking for the Queen bee with the magnifying glass.

We stayed for a few hours and then had a yummy lunch at the best burger joint in Charlottesville - 5 Guys Burgers and Fries. It is close to a Braum's burger (in Oklahoma), but I am not sure who is the winner on the best in my book....

Devon, it looks like you are having so much fun while Rich is on R & R. I'm so happy he's finally home with you. Enjoy the rest of it!

This museum looks neat, and that's great it's targeted for little ones.
